WIREWOUND POTENTIOMETERS
Wirewound pots have advantages in some applications where higher accuracy, repeatability, or temperature stability is required.
The TCR (Temperature Coefficient of Resistance is typically 20ppm / degC compared with 200 for the equivalent conductive plastic version. Contact resistance is less than 0.5 ohms (100 ohms typical for CP) allowing them to be used for absolute resistance measurement.
For example, the linear pots shown above can be manufactured in 1k / inch to give a direct readout of displacement on any multimeter.
